Exciting Advances

A group of students from IT-University in Copenhagen have combined two of my pleasures: Open Source and beer. Check out http://www.voresoel.dk/main.php?id=70 for any more explanation. I'm hoping to get our house involved in this once we return to school. There were some attempts at brewing last year, but they didn't turn out so well.

A group of Japanese engineers have created a female human-looking android. It can't do much at the moment, but this is still the beginning. I haven't heard any comments on it, but I have a feeling this sort of technology could be a huge help with artificial limbs. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4714135.stm

Something feels a bit wrong to me with artifical light, so I'm looking forward to a new form of lighting technology from Canada. It's a very lost energy-costing dish that sends light from the sun (without the UV) through fiberoptic cables into the house. They're expecting it to be on the market in 2007. http://pesn.com/2005/07/27/9600139_Fiber_Optics_Bring_Sun_Indoors/

Bad news: According to a research group in Israel, cell phone usage can irrevocably damage your eyes. The tests haven't yet been done on humans, but it seems to be yet another thing bad with cell phones. http://www.primidi.com/2005/07/27.html
